1.2 - Climate Change Impacts

Description

Climate change is a global problem that affects all aspects of the environment. This activity explores how climate change can impact entire ecosystems and reduce the Earth's biological productivity.

Task

Choose a plant or animal that is on the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species, and conduct internet research to find out:

  • Where it lives.
  • What it eats to survive.
  • What eats it to survive.
Review the Climate Change Scenarios handout and search the internet to find out the potential impacts of climate change on your chosen plant and animal, and share your findings with the class through a blog entry. Read through your classmate's blog posts to help answer the "Climate Change Impacts" discussion thread.

Learning Objectives

  • To understand the concepts of ecosystem, biodiversity, interdependence, and carrying capacity.
  • To appreciate how climate change can impact different components of an ecosystem.
